We made it to the lovely and spacious Des Moines KOA around midnight and let our slideouts, well slide out. It is amazing how much you can appreciate an extra two feet after hours in a tin can on wheels. Those 24 inches are indeed precious. We set up camp - and by camp I mean we moved Coen from his carseat to a bunkbed, inflated the fold out couch/air mattress bed, and watched Debbie and John retire to the secluded space in the back (trust me they deserve it after a few hours with the most talkative 10 year old in the world and 4 years olds who are not thrilled to be seated at a table in their carseats for hours on end).
I have been voted off the RV. At least for a bit. Kinda.
Sadly, my amazing grandfather passed away early this morning so our plans have shifted a bit. We have spent the day en route to Denver so I can catch a flight east in the morning. If I am lucky, my fellow travel companions may be willing to pick me up in a few days. That being said, there may be a blogging hiatus until I return. But I assure you the updates and pictures will be forthcoming once I fly into Salt Lake City...
Sometimes that is just the way live goes and we need to roll with it. in this case - literally. I am fortunate to be traveling with understanding and kind folk who are happy to camp out in a walm@rt parking lot to ensure I make my flight. We had some fun on this bus and were treated to an amazing dinner care of Meredith. And as an aside, Nebraska and Iowa - really flat.
Today we have covered quite a bit of ground - Iowa through Nebraska and into Colorado.
More fun to come.
