We are now on day 11. I have no idea how that all happened so quickly. Then again, traversing the country by plane and car tends to make time a rather strange concept.
How Jill spent days 3-8: Flew from Denver to JFK. My brother and his kick@ss wife drove me to Shelton, CT. Spent time going back and forth between Shelton and Milford, seeing my amazing family, attending my nephew's preschool graduation, getting a visit from Mere's sister La and family, and paying homage to my grandfather. On Day 8, I flew to Salt Lake City after fun conversations with Delt@ about how they can make things as difficult and expensive as possible. Almost five hour flight that I managed to board after getting pushed through security and literally running to my gate. in sandals. i made it with 7 minutes to spare. arrived in sunny and hot (100 degrees +) Salt Lake City which is two hours behind NYC time and one hour behind MN time. needless to say, i had no idea what time it was... I rented a car. a very nice car actually and drove 312 miles down to catch the RV folk who were awaiting my arrival in at a campsite outside of Zion. ~ 5 hours of driving. needless to say (but i will anyway i guess) - it was a damn long day. but after a difficult and memorable few days i was finally reunited with my kids, Mere, JM Oakes, and D Money.
How everyone else spent days 3-8:
Day 3: Denver to Colorado Springs. After depositing me at the airport (where I was able to see my excited and fun seester Amy), brother Nick brought Amy to the RV where they plowed into a cart corral and then embarked on a journey to Colorado Springs to meet up with Neil and take in the stunning sites of Colorado.
D Money apparently learned some valuable RV tips while the children hung onto uncle Neil like monkeys on a tree. And Meredith shaved Spencer's hair. Just because.
Day 4: Garden of the Gods and Helen's Falls to Mesa Verde, CO. An early morning start at Garden of the Gods to catch the sunrise and glimpses of Pikes Peak followed by an adventure to Helen's Falls.
After a fun few hours with Amy, the tireless team headed to Mesa Verde, CO. This has been described as death defying, scary as hell, and extremely anxiety producing. Meredith and D Money laughed out of nervousness as JM Oakes white knuckled it through the combative terrain. He requested they cease and desist immediately so they opted to drink some wine and offer appropriate moral support. Lest I feel left out, they kindly videotaped part of the drive - fair warning: I hope you like roller coasters...
To top off the hellish drive through the mountains, upon arriving at Mesa Verde they learned there was no site available for them. So they taped the reservation number to the door and slept in the parking lot (in the RV of course).
